Science and Technology Daily, Beijing, March 30 (Reporter Qu Jian) The Chinese version of the "BP World Energy Outlook (2017 Edition)" (referred to as "Prospect") released in Beijing on the 30th shows that in the next 20 years, China will grow in renewable energy. The largest source, whose renewable energy increment will exceed the EU and the US combined.
BP Group CEO Dedley said at the release that the global energy landscape is changing. Traditional demand centers are being overtaken by fast-growing emerging markets. Driven by technological advances and environmental concerns, the energy mix is transforming. "More than ever, our industry needs to adapt to these changing energy demands."
The Outlook points out that from 2015 to 2035, global energy demand is expected to grow by around 30%, with an average annual growth rate of 1.3%. However, this growth in energy demand is significantly slower than the expected annual growth rate of 3.4% of global GDP, reflecting improvements in energy efficiency due to technological advances and environmental concerns.
The Outlook predicts that by 2035, China will account for 26% of the world's total energy consumption and 35% of global net growth. China's energy intensity will fall by 45% over the outlook period, or 3% annually. The Outlook says global coal consumption will peak by the mid-2020s as China shifts to cleaner, low-carbon fuels. The Outlook also predicts that renewable energy will be the fastest growing fuel source, with an average annual growth rate of 7.6%; non-fossil fuels will account for half of the growth in energy supply over the next 20 years. Growth in renewables will quadruple, driven by increased competitiveness of solar and wind.
